WHAT IS MEGARTEN? Megarten is a small, queer and women-owned business based out of Southern Maine. It is owned and operated by Megan Bainbridge, a fine art photographer, who conveys research-based and autobiographical themes through visual storytelling. Themes include, but are not limited to:

  • Dual-national identity as a German American
  • Dada-inspired intuitive, nonsensical, and abstract art-making
  • Conceptual ideas of the art versus the artist via concert photography
  • Critique of insufficient food additive regulations in the United States
  • Ethical tourism, including ideas of how Americans can be better tourists
  • Critique of insufficient cell phone radio frequency testing standards in the United States

Bainbridge utilizes analog photographic processes when creating her work, including 35mm film and medium format photography. The artist uses experimental techniques such as painting on, scratching, and layering negatives. Stickers listed for purchase on the megarten.shop are digital reproductions of photographs she has created using both color and black and white darkroom processes. Bainbridge does not use AI in creating her fine artwork and is a strong advocate for keeping art human. You can learn more about the artist here and her work here.
