“Marisa the Water Nymph” is an image that I took during a photoshoot in Torrington, Connecticut in Burr Pond State Park. I photographed a group of three female friends who agreed to dress up in long dresses and walk into the water at Burr Pond. This shoot was inspired by Justine Kurland’s “Girl Pictures,” a series of photographs that capture young women in the wilderness. I wanted to put my own spin on the idea by having my subjects dress up in uber-feminine outfits while they traipsed through the water. I wanted to capture images that celebrated femininity, whimsy, and the courage to step out onto the slippery rocks.
